What is AdBlue?
AdBlue is the registered trademark for AUS32 (Aqueous Urea Solution 32.5%). It’s used in a process called Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) and consists of 32.5% high purity urea and 67.5% deionised water.
What does AdBlue diesel additive do?
Put simply, the AdBlue solution helps to reduce harmful nitrous oxide (NOx) emissions which are present in a diesel vehicle’s exhaust fumes. Its use is a legal requirement as part of the EU’s commitment to reducing CO2 and NOx emissions, and cutting air pollution across the EU member states.
Reduced NOx emissions from commercial vehicles are not the only benefit of this solution, as its use also increases your vehicle’s MPG and helps your business meet greener goals.
This greener diesel additive is available in intermediate bulk containers (IBC’s) of 1,000 litres, 200-litre barrels and a variety of smaller 10-litre and 25-litre AdBlue pack sizes, to cater for all needs. Right now, we’re offering low prices on AdBlue which means you make big savings when you buy AdBlue from Crown Oil UK.
Are you in the North West, Manchester or in the local area? Why not visit us at the Oil Centre with your own AdBlue container and fill up from our bulk tank? You could save yourself even more!
Who needs to use AdBlue?
All commercial diesel engine vehicles weighing 7.5 tonnes and upwards, and manufactured after October 2006 (Euro IV and Euro V) are fitted with SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) technology.
For the SCR process to function, AdBlue must be injected into the exhaust gases as a post-combustion process. Once sprayed onto the harmful emissions, it then breaks down the ‘not so good stuff’ into less harmful elements which can safely be restored to the atmosphere.
The solution is not directly added to the diesel fuel. It is stored in a separate storage tank connected to the vehicle which has its own gauge and metring system. It’s then added to the exhaust gases as a fine spray at a proportion roughly equivalent to 5% of the diesel fuel.
Taking care with AdBlue
If you need to purchase AdBlue, it’s a good idea to familiarise yourself with some of the common best practices and handling techniques.
AdBlue is a safe product to use and handle, but there are certain procedures to be followed to ensure the product is kept in a suitable condition and its effectiveness is not impaired. Care needs to be taken particularly in the storage and dispensing of AdBlue as not to render it useless for its purpose.
5 tips to keep your AdBlue safe and clean
- Keep AdBlue away from water and contaminants. If you think your AdBlue has been contaminated please don’t use it. Adblue should not be mixed with anything.
- If you accidentally spill any AdBlue solution, simply clean it up with water.
- If you need to transfer your AdBlue from one place to another, even when cleaning its container, please use equipment that is specifically intended for AdBlue.
- AdBlue will freeze below -10°C but, once it has thawed out, it will be safe to use again.
- Once you refill your tank, ensure the lid is firmly closed to prevent anything getting in there that shouldn’t.
